Gutter Crew and Solutionist Jobs in Sunnyvale and on the Peninsula

Crew member carrying a downspout to the wall

Quick answer

Gutter jobs in Sunnyvale and on the Peninsula: The Brothers That Just Do Gutters Sunnyvale is always hiring two roles: Crew Members, who form, hang and fix seamless gutters, and Solutionists, who meet homeowners and write honest estimates. You do not need gutter experience. Construction, roofing, exterior work or field sales experience helps, but reliability and a good attitude matter more, and every new team member trains on the Brothers system from day one. To apply, call (650) 600-0598 and ask for the role you want, or read both openings on our careers page.

Why the work is steady

Peninsula rooflines keep a gutter crew busy all year

Most people only think about gutters when one fails. The people who install them think about them every day, and on the Peninsula there is always something to think about.

Peninsula gutters work under a lot of trees. Oak, sycamore, liquidambar and redwood drop into the trough for months, and redwood and pine needles pack the gutter right before the first real storm. Then a string of winter storms asks the whole system to work at once. When the water cannot get out, it backs up over the fascia and into the roofline, and every clogged or undersized gutter shows itself at the same time. That is why homeowners call, and why the work stays steady.

The houses add to it. Plenty of the rooflines we see are still carrying the gutters they were built with, and those systems were never sized for the way the rain arrives now. One week the crew replaces gutters and downspouts on a 100-year-old Spanish-style bungalow, the next it hangs new downspouts on a brick ranch home. If you want a feel for the season that drives the schedule, read our rain-ready checklist for Peninsula homes before the first atmospheric river.

The work is also varied. The same crews handle seamless gutter installation, cleanings, repairs, BroGuard metal mesh guards, fascia and drainage, plus copper installs up and down the Peninsula. You will not spend a year doing one task on repeat.

Where you will work

The shop is on Willow Avenue in Sunnyvale. From there, crews work from Santa Clara, Sunnyvale and Mountain View up through Palo Alto, Menlo Park, Redwood City and San Mateo to Pacifica and San Francisco. One job might be a redwood-needle cleanup on a shaded lot, the next a copper install, the next a full seamless replacement. You can see every community we cover on our service areas page.

Two ways in

Crew Member and Solutionist, side by side

Crew Member: seamless gutters, formed on the driveway

Our crew members are the reason a home stays dry through the worst storm of the year. You form seamless gutters on site from a coil on the truck, cut every run to the exact length of the roofline and hang it so the water goes where it should. The same crews handle repairs, cleanings, BroGuard metal mesh guards, fascia and drainage. Training on the Brothers system starts on day one. The full Crew Member role is on our careers page.

Solutionist: not a salesperson

We do not call the person who visits a home a salesman. We call them a Solutionist, because that is the job: walk the roofline, figure out what the house actually needs, explain it in plain language and give the homeowner a straight written quote. Your visits are scheduled with homeowners who asked for an estimate. You measure, photograph and diagnose the roofline, then write a clear, honest estimate on the spot. Some days that means a full seamless installation. Some days it means telling someone their gutters just need two hangers and a cleaning. You get training on our products and the Brothers way.

A day on the crew

What an install day actually looks like

This is the rhythm of a day on a Peninsula crew, from loading the truck in the morning to the final walk with the homeowner.

  1. Load up and roll out.Check the day’s jobs, load the truck and head out to homes across the Peninsula.
  2. Form it right there.Seamless gutters come off the machine on the truck, formed from a coil and cut to the exact length of the roofline.
  3. Carry and stage.Seamless runs get carried across the yard and downspouts carried to the wall, ready to hang.
  4. Hang it straight and tight.Set the pitch so the water goes where it should, then seal, guard and test.
  5. Finish the downspouts. One teammate fastens a downspout under the eave while another brings the next section.
  6. Leave it better.Walk the job with the homeowner and leave every property cleaner than you found it.

The Solutionist’s day

The Solutionist seat runs on appointments that homeowners booked because they wanted an estimate. At each stop you walk the roofline, measure, photograph and diagnose what is going on, then write the estimate right there. One homeowner wrote that the Solutionist who came out was the only one who “made the time to come to my house, measure it up by hand and have an actual person-to-person conversation with me.” That is the job done right, and it is the reason the role works for people who would rather be honest than pushy.

Work you can point to

Every run you hang is a home that stays dry for years. You will drive past your own work all over the Peninsula, from Santa Clara to San Francisco. Few jobs let you point out the window on the drive home and say “I did that.”

Growth and fit

How you grow here, and who does well

This is a place to learn a real trade from scratch. Here is how the learning works and the kind of person who thrives on this crew.

How you grow

You do not need to walk in knowing gutters. Every new team member trains on the Brothers system, and you learn how we measure, form, hang and quote, and why. Nobody gets thrown on a ladder and left to figure it out. If you are not yet comfortable on a ladder, be ready to get comfortable with good training.

From there, growth means range. Crew Members learn to form seamless gutters from the coil, cut every run to length, set pitch, seal and test, and because the same crews handle repairs, cleanings, BroGuard guards, fascia and drainage, the skills you build cover the whole roofline. A Solutionist trains on our products and the Brothers way and grows into the person homeowners trust to tell them the truth about their roofline. Our careers page does not publish a formal promotion chart or pay scale, so ask about the next step when you call. We would rather tell you that than make a promise on a blog post.

What we look for

  • You show up on time and finish what you start.
  • You like working outside and with your hands.
  • You are comfortable on a ladder, or ready to get comfortable with good training.
  • You take pride in a clean, straight line.
  • You like people and you listen first.
  • You would rather be honest than pushy.
  • You are organized and follow through.
  • You are curious about how houses work.

What you do not need

  • Gutter experience. Construction, roofing, exterior work or field sales helps, but it is not required.
  • Your own truck or gutter machine. We bring the trucks and the gutter machine.
  • A hard-sell personality. Solutionists visit homeowners who asked for an estimate.
  • To know the Brothers system already. Training starts on day one.
  • To figure it out alone. Nobody gets handed a ladder and left there.
  • A polished resume. A real person reads every message.

The team behind the name

The owner Eric Dodge always wished he had worked for

Eric Dodge picked this franchise because it invests in its people. Here is what that means for the person who joins his crew.

The Brothers That Just Do Gutters Sunnyvale is locally owned and operated by Eric Dodge. He opened it after a career in research, sales support and program management at DuPont and pharmaceutical manufacturers, plus a stretch with AmeriCorps VISTA. He picked this franchise because it invests in its people, and he set out to be the owner he always wished he had worked for. That shows up at a customer’s house as a crew that is trained, treated well and in no hurry to cut corners. You can read more on our about page.

Behind the local team stands The Brothers That Just Do Gutters, the national brand founded in 1999 by brothers Ken and Ryan Parsons. It calls its people Solutionists, not salespeople, and it has spent more than 25 years doing nothing but gutters. Homeowners already know the name, so you walk up to every door with a head start.

What that looks like day to day

  • Every Google review stays up, good or bad. It is how the team keeps itself honest.
  • A local number and a local team on Willow Avenue, never routed to another state.
  • Written, itemized estimates: repair when repair is right, replace when it is not.
  • Aluminum, copper and steel at the roofline. Nothing plastic.
  • Real training before you are on your own.
  • Trucks and the gutter machine provided, so you show up and work.

What homeowners say about the crew

Peninsula homeowners rate the team 5.0 on Google across 95 reviews, and the reviews describe the crew you would be joining. “The guys were very respectful, on time, informative, and did a great job,” one wrote. Another said the crew “showed up on time, did a great job and cleaned up the mess from the gutters all around the house.” A third called the installation crew “professional” and said they “completed the job quickly and efficiently.” Those are the habits we train, and the habits we hire for.
