Local Gutter Solutionists

Big lots, big oaks, and roofs that pay for both

Los Altos is a canopy town. The lots are generous, the coast live oaks are old and protected, and the houses underneath them range from 1950s ranch to substantial rebuilds with complicated rooflines, tile and multiple valleys. All of that is lovely and all of it ends up in the gutter. Oak does not drop in one tidy season the way a maple does, so a trough under a mature oak is collecting something most of the year.

Parts of town also sit close enough to the hills that fire hardening is a real conversation rather than a brochure line, which is why we install non-combustible metal mesh rather than anything plastic. Eric Dodge owns this location, every job starts with a free written estimate, and we are licensed, bonded and insured with a 5.0 rating on Google.

Street trees are the local story here. Sycamore, oak, liquidambar and Chinese pistache drop leaves and seed pods from fall into winter, right when the rain arrives, so a clogged run overflows at the first real storm. BroGuard stainless micro-mesh keeps that debris out while the water runs straight through. See our maintenance program.

Why the Brothers

Why Los Altos Homeowners Call the Brothers

01Formed at your house

Our truck carries the machine, so each run is extruded on site to the exact length of your roofline, however many corners it turns. No factory seams to split.

02Sized for tile and valleys

A tile roof with several valleys concentrates water in a way a simple ranch plane does not. That means 6 inch gutters and larger downspouts far more often than the standard spec allows for.

03Honest about the oaks

Nothing keeps a trough clean under a mature coast live oak on its own. Metal micro-mesh plus a real schedule is the answer, and we will say so rather than sell you a product that promises otherwise.

04Non-combustible by default

Where the hills are close, plastic and foam inserts are fuel sitting on the roofline. We install metal, which is also what California code is asking for in a Wildland-Urban Interface Fire Area.

Year-round

  2. Winter · Dec to MarStorm season response

Overflow and clog calls prioritized ahead of forecast storms, plus emergency repair when a run pulls loose.

  3. Spring · Apr to MayPost-bloom clean-out and guards

Oak, liquidambar and eucalyptus drop cleared, and BroGuard installed so the trough stays clear through the dry months.

  4. Summer · Jun to SepInstall season and hardening

The long dry window for new seamless runs, metal upgrades and non-combustible guards, which is also when fire season peaks.

“The Brothers were great to work with. Quick response, easy scheduling, flexible accommodation of our requests. Front man Max and get ’er done Robert both knew their stuff. They also didn’t hesitate to come back immediately for some touchups even after they had my money. I can only wish more places were like Brothers.”

Los Altos Gutter Questions, Answered

Our oaks are protected. What can we actually do about the gutters?

Work on the gutter rather than the tree. Non-combustible metal micro-mesh keeps leaf and acorn out of the trough, and a scheduled cleaning handles the fine material that gets through. Under a mature coast live oak that combination is the realistic answer, and anything promising a maintenance-free result is overselling.

Do tile roofs need different gutters?

Usually bigger ones. Tile with multiple valleys concentrates a lot of water into a few points, so 6 inch gutters with 3 by 4 inch downspouts are common here where 5 inch would be the default elsewhere. A Solutionist sizes it to the actual roof area and the valley layout.

Is fire hardening relevant in Los Altos?

In parts of town, genuinely yes. In a Wildland-Urban Interface Fire Area, Section 504.4 of California’s Wildland-Urban Interface Code (formerly R337.5.4) requires roof gutters to have a means of preventing leaves and debris from accumulating. A non-combustible metal mesh guard is how that normally gets satisfied. Your city can confirm whether your address is in one of those zones.

How often should gutters be cleaned here?

More often than most of the Peninsula, because oak drops through most of the year rather than in one season. Twice a year is the floor under a mature canopy and three times is common. We would rather set a schedule than have you find out during a storm.

Is the estimate really free?

Yes. A local Solutionist comes out, walks the roofline and the drainage, explains what you actually need and leaves a written price. No pressure and no obligation to book anything.
