Century-old trim in the Old Quad, ranch runs everywhere else

Santa Clara has two housing stories and they need different gutters. The Old Quad around the university still has Victorian and Craftsman homes with deep eaves, decorative rafter tails and trim that a standard K-style profile will quietly ruin. Everywhere else, from Bowers to Laurelwood to Killarney Farms, is postwar ranch with long roof planes and, very often, one downspout carrying more than it should.

Mature street trees connect the two. Coast live oak, liquidambar and redwood all end up in the trough, and in a town that only sees about 15 inches of rain a year it is easy to let a blockage sit until the first real storm finds it. Eric Dodge owns this location, every job starts with a free written estimate, and we are licensed, bonded and insured with a 5.0 rating on Google.

Street trees are the local story here. Sycamore, oak, liquidambar and Chinese pistache drop leaves and seed pods from fall into winter, right when the rain arrives, so a clogged run overflows at the first real storm. BroGuard stainless micro-mesh keeps that debris out while the water runs straight through. See our maintenance program.

Why the Brothers

Why Santa Clara Homeowners Call the Brothers

01Formed at your house

Our truck carries the machine, so each run is extruded on site to the exact length of your roofline. No factory seams to split on a long ranch run.

02We match the profile to the house

A Craftsman in the Old Quad and a 1960s ranch off Bowers do not take the same gutter. Half-round and specialty profiles exist for a reason and we will tell you when one is worth it.

03We count outlets, not just feet

The most common overflow we find here is too much roof plane draining to one downspout. Adding an outlet often solves it without replacing gutter that is still perfectly sound.

04Ready before the rain

Around 15 inches of rain a year, almost all of it between November and April and often in a few big systems. The work gets scheduled before the first one, not after it.

  3. Spring · Apr to MayPost-bloom clean-out and guards

  4. Summer · Jun to SepInstall season and hardening

The long dry window for new seamless runs, metal upgrades and non-combustible guards, which is also when fire season peaks.

What Peninsula Homeowners Say

Steve Fink★★★★★

“The Brothers were great to work with. Quick response, easy scheduling, flexible accommodation of our requests. Front man Max and get ’er done Robert both knew their stuff. They also didn’t hesitate to come back immediately for some touchups even after they had my money. I can only wish more places were like Brothers.”

“They were very professional, approachable and responsive to the desires of the customer’s end goal. The crew worked very efficiently. They offer the curbed sleek gutters which are not easy to find; I’m happy with the overall results!”

Grainger Marburg★★★★★

“I hired The Brothers That Just Do Gutters to replace some gutters and downspouts that were probably as old as the house itself (a 100-year-old Spanish-style bungalow).”

Santa Clara Gutter Questions, Answered

Will a new gutter look wrong on an Old Quad house?

Not if it is specified properly. Those homes have deep eaves and decorative rafter tails, and a standard K-style hung tight to the fascia can bury detail that is the reason the house looks the way it does. Half-round and specialty profiles are available and we will show you the difference before you decide.

Why does my gutter overflow in the same spot every storm?

Usually too much roof draining to one downspout, which is common in the postwar tracts here. Adding an outlet or moving to a 6 inch gutter with 3 by 4 inch downspouts fixes the capacity problem without a full replacement.

How often should gutters be cleaned in Santa Clara?

Twice a year for most homes, once before the rains and once after. Under coast live oak or liquidambar you will want more, because oak drops through most of the year and liquidambar seed balls block an outlet completely.

Do you handle drainage away from the house as well?

Yes. Downspouts that dump at the slab send every gallon toward the foundation. We run underground lines to daylight or to a drywell, and multiple downspouts can be tied into one run sized for the roof area.

Is the estimate really free?

Yes. A local Solutionist comes out, walks the roofline and the drainage, explains what you actually need and leaves a written price. No pressure and no obligation to book anything.
